Press Release: Notice of May 22, 2014 Public Hearing regarding MassDOT/RMV Fee Increases -
/Pursuant to M.G.L. chapter 7, section 3B, M.G.L. chapter 90, section 33, and M.G.L. chapter 30A, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Administration and Finance (A & F), in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Registry of Motor Vehicles Division (MassDOT/RMV), will hold a public hearing relative to proposed amendments to the regulations of the Executive Office of Administration and Finance as they appear at 801 CMR 4.02 (“4.02: Fees for Licenses, Permits and Services to be Charged by State Agencies”). The proposed amendments to 801 CMR 4.02 would change certain existing fees charged by the Registry of Motor Vehicles, as appearing at 801 CMR 4.02 (at agency code 540). The proposed changes are limited to the fee increases approved by the MassDOT Board of Directors on March 12, 2014 in support of a directive in the 2013 Transportation Finance Law for MassDOT to increase revenue.
(i) Passenger vehicle registration: Increase from $50 to $60 (2-yr reg.); $25 to $30 (1-yr reg.). [All “passenger” plates of any type, including: PAN (Normal); PAR (Reserved); PAS (Special); PAV (Vanity); and PAY (Year)]. See your Certificate of Registration to determine if the increase applies to your vehicle.
(ii) License Application (includes road test): Increase from $20 to $35.
(iii) Motor Vehicle Inspections: All current vehicle inspections charged a $29 fee will pay a $35 fee. The proposed regulation amendments are intended to take effect on July 1, 2014. The Hearing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the State Transportation Building, 10 Park Plaza, 3rd Floor, Room 3830 MassDOT Board Room, Boston MA. Since the Board Room is in a secure area of the building, an acceptable ID will be required for admittance. Interested parties will be given an opportunity to present comments orally or in writing at the Hearing. They may also provide written comments, in advance of the Hearing, by mail or email or during the comment period after the Hearing. Emailed comments may be made to: wmcvey@state.ma.us.
